Book Consultation Online How Shockwave Therapy Works Radial Shockwave Therapy (RSWT) works by targeting injured areas with sound waves. This triggers the body’s natural inflammatory healing response which encourages a quicker recovery time. It is particularly helpful for chronic injuries, tissue that isn’t healing and those that haven’t responded to conservative treatments such as chiropractic, physiotherapy, rest, injections, ice therapy and painkillers. It is clinically proven to: Reduce pain Increase circulation of blood into the surrounding soft tissues Begin the healing process triggered by stem cell activation. Our clinic uses the The Swiss DolorClast Method®, which is the most well-researched shock wave therapy with a combination of unique technologies, clinically proven protocols and education to ensure significant improvement in given musculoskeletal and dermatological indications. For more information about how RSWT technology works and the research behind it, visit the EMS website: https://www.ems-dolorclast.com/studies-library Real Stories - Real Relief Peter Kong - Google We called the clinic on Saturday because we felt our son needed treatment straight away so he could get back to playing in his Saturday matches. He was able to receive shockwave therapy treatment that same day from Emily. She was incredibly gentle with his injury and very reassuring throughout the session. Afterwards, we could already notice a big difference — he was feeling much better and was back to his usual morning training routine. As for me, I’ve now had my second shockwave therapy treatment and I can honestly say it’s made a huge difference to my lower back. Emily also treated my left knee MCL injury from football and badminton using shockwave therapy, and it felt so much better afterwards. She even helped improve the movement in my left shoulder, which had been very tight due to muscle tension. I can confidently say Emily is excellent at what she does and has genuinely helped me get back on track with my life. I’m really looking forward to my third shockwave treatment next week. Thanks also to all the friendly and welcoming staff. Shockwave Therapy FAQ What can I expect after Shockwave treatment? Many patients experience an improvement in symptoms almost immediately while others can a few weeks to respond. You may notice some discomfort or swelling of the 2-4 hours after treatment but any pain will subside within 24 hours. You can take over the counter painkillers (such as paracetamol) but you should avoid anti-inflammatory medication (such as ibuprofen) and ice therapy, as these can interfere with the body’s natural healing process Does Shockwave Therapy hurt? The shockwaves are felt as pulses which can be slightly painful, but your practitioner will work with you by starting at a low level of intensity and increase this to a point where you feel comfortable. Any pain felt, will stop as soon as the treatment ends. Can I exercise after Shockwave treatment? You will be able to return to day-to-day activities straight away and can return to work immediately, however we advise you not to undertake any strenuous, pain-provoking activity or high impact exercise for 48 hours following the procedure. Do I need a consultation before having shockwave treatment? If you haven't had a previous consultation with one of our chiropractors you will need to have an initial assessment to identify the exact area of pain and ensure shockwave therapy is appropriate and safe for you. We will also discuss if a referral for any further tests or scans are needed before commencing treatment. How does shockwave therapy work? Radial Shockwave Therapy works by targeting injured areas with sound waves. Is Shockwave Therapy safe? Following the treatment it is possible to experience redness, bruising, swelling and numbness in the area which usually resolves within a few days. There is a very small risk of tendon rupture or ligament rupture and damage to the soft tissue. We may request an ultrasound scan or MRI to ensure it is safe to provide shockwave therapy Our Cardiff Shockwave Clinic in Whitchurch Book A Consultation Online Contact Us Have more questions?
